Reflection Questions
  • From the usage of the Greek words in 1 John, explain in your own words the meaning of “fellowship.” Why do you think fellowship was mentioned as one of the four main practices of the Jerusalem Church in Acts 2:42?

  • How would you help an inquirer or a believer who is attracted to New Age teachings? In what ways does it help to trace its roots back to Gnosticism? What principles from John’s letters can be used to explain biblical truths to those who have been attracted to the New Age movement?

  • How does John show he is using the position/function of a pastor in his three epistles? Mention several ways in which these pastoral methods might be applied in planting a church among unreached people groups and evangelism.

  • On the chart Defense of the Christian Faith , choose 3 passages, and fill in the False Teaching(s) that each addresses. On the chart Tests for Assurance , choose 6 passages and fill in the action that accompanies that truth.
    a. Do these actions produce truths, or do truths produce these actions?
    b. In what way is each one measurable?
    c. How do these “tests” help the believers mature in fellowship?
    d. How do they help in combatting heresies?
